Intellectual Property Rights

http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Intellectual_property
http://www.ip-watch.org/weblog/2009/05/15/experts-aim-to-balance-intellectual-property-rights-and-human-rights/

The main idea in the article is to try and find a closer balance on importance of intellectual rights and human rights. Most people see human rights in a higher level of importance versus that of the intellectual right but when you break them both down they seem very close...almost like intellectual rights falls into the human rights slot. Not having better intellectual rights is robbing us of better equiptment and a better understanding of humanity, the human body and all other things that could be further researched if there were greater protection for intellectual rights. There is a search for sub-criteria to better explain what steps need to be taken to inforce better laws and regulations for intellectual rights.

In my opinion it is a good idea. More people would be willing to focus and work on one specific area of interest (example: Cancer Research) if they knew their hard work and dedication would be recognized and would not be corrupted by someone else. Thus, making the advance in all kinds of medical research and other types of research much more logical and focused. In turn it may also help increase understanding for other types of rights people have that are not being protected to their fullest and need to be re-evaluated just like intellectual rights.

other articles on intellectual rights:
http://greeninc.blogs.nytimes.com/2009/05/21/clean-energy-and-intellectual-property/

this article was written in reference to how spreading clean energy information to other countries. It sounds good except for the fact that it could put a dent in intellectual rights for researchers who work heavily at this clean energy information. Obama and administration are working for a way to distribute information with out discouraging and endangering the intellectual rights of those parties involved on the educating side. The issues are being talked through in the draft of potential climate agreement.

I believe it is sooo important for more information to be out there for people to help out our environment. The environment is a vital part of our lives whether people want to acknowlegde we all play a part in its destruction or not. I would like to see where this idea can go while helping both sides of this issue. I wouldnt want to discourage or veer people from working on more options for a cleaner energy source because we never know what we might find. Hopefully we can find a way to get there, without stepping on anyones toes!

US $ in decline!---International trade blog

The United states economy faces some challenges now that the "value" of the American dollars has dropped. The European Union (EU){http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro} has lessened restrictions on imports and has also have created the Euro which now has value in 25 countries and its economy is more than that of $9 trillion dollars. (Not bad at all, eh?) There has also been some searching by the Floating Monetary System {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Euro} which determines the value of money in a certain country and its value in other places...Etc.

Because of the United States debts other countries put less faith in American Money and thus do not trust us to pay back thus creating the rocky drop in American currency value. But there is also the fact that it could increase exports to other countries which could inturn stimulate our economy...thus showing, this may not be a bad thing at all.

I personally feel that the American people should be working to lower our debts before digging ourselves into more. Yes, working with imports and exports can be helpful but only to a certain extent. Tariffs can only go so far as to lower the debt issue, you can only tax people so much until they decide they can do without...etc. {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Tariff} If people want to stay on the ruite of looking alternatives then they should try working with some subsidies which can help give some advantages to our countries business and labor force. {http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Subsidy}

Lyndon B. Johnso liked working with taxes which in a sense could be useful, he would like to fund benefitial programs with tax money and hopefully improve the economy by improving people and their situations.

US Treasury Bailout Dividends

http://www.reuters.com/article/newIssuesNews/idUSWAT01129720090417
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Dividend

The US Treasury bails out $2.5 BILLION in divid ends. They now say with that high rise in the percentile in which the annual rates have risen ( 5%-9%) they will be publishing all the dividend data and all money poured into the bail out so the American people can view and monitor how this money is divided out and so forth. This will also help with regulation of the said money and people can see the money from their investments.

I personally dont have much of an opinion on this matter. Mostly because I do not entirely understand this whole thing but mainly because i cannot understand how billions upon billions are being distributed and monitored. it seems like theres wayyy to much there to be watched effectively. so my own personal opinion is if this is working for them then ok.

WHO'S TO BLAME???

Investment bankers are the people in our economy who sell "security" in the form of mortgages. They are ran through and protected by the Federal National Mortgage Association...otherwise known as Fannie Mae. They sell these mortgages to people and expect them to pay back. They deal with raising capital, trading securities and managing corporate mergers and acquisitions. Investment banks earn money from companies and governments by raising money through buying and selling securities. http://www.growthink.com/contact

In some cases though the investors made poor/ risky choices as to whom they were investing with. These risky people sometimes did not come through and caused some serious downfalls. Because they were reckless in trying to make quick money they didnt realize the "securities" were not secure. They poorly invested the money. Their job is to better investigate where they are doing business...(Besides the fact that they give themselves huge raises and what not...)
" Investment banks are creatures of the global capital markets. They can borrow seemingly unlimited amounts of funds from investors around the world and deploy them as they see fit." When they see fit isnt looking into the long run things begin to get a little cloudy. I personally think there are many people to blame for this downfall but investment bankers are a secure bet as a culpret. http://www.newsweek.com/id/159092

The Great Depression--current event blog

http://topics.nytimes.com/topics/reference/timestopics/subjects/g/great_depression_1930s/index.html
http://www.encyclopedia.com/doc/1E1-GreatDep.html
The great depression was so much more than "great" it was a devastation. Prices fell 89%..it also had a vast amount of unemployment. Most people pin its start to“Black Tuesday,” Oct. 29, 1929. People who bought stocks "on margin" (borrowed money) were the ones who suffered the consequences. struggling to keep above the high unemployment, low wages, no credit and failing business...people seemed to find no relief from president Hoover but instead turned to Roosevelt to come up with a solution and plan. Making federally funded jobs, and creating new work forces there were slight improvements. then further on World War 2 struck and things went on hold again. the United states didnt regain itself until the 1950's.

i think in our current situation we need to start making federally funded jobs and look into options like that. help out big business and small business as best we can to keep them a float and keep people employed. its scary to think that we are following a pattern that happened in our past and to look that it took nearly 20 years to get on its feet again, i worry about my future and what will happen next...

Post Office

http://www.foxbusiness.com/story/markets/economy/post-office-seeks-ways-cut-costs/
Even the mail may be effected by economic nightmare the United States is facing. Postmaster General John Potter has stated there may be on day of mail delivery taken out of the week (meaning 5 days of delivery) to compensate for the lack of retirement help and the growing deficit. Prefunded retirement accounts are basically a requirement now and if Potter doesnt get assistance hes going to remove delivery on the slowest of days (typically tuesday or saturday)

i think it is entirely fair that Potter wants some more help, and if he doesnt get his help then hes not going to allow any extra favors for us. it is kind of a frustrating situation to need help with something and ask for so little and then not be able to get that help. i would understand the fact that if they cant have help then they would want to work less days a week and help themselves.

Cops: Dad angry over child support kills son

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28485556/
In New Orleans a twenty two year old father is accused of murdering his two year old son.... the reason?? He was overly "stressed" by the amount of child support he owed the little boys mother, his estranged wife. The father called the estranged wife shortly after picking up their son and he claimed the boy had been kidnapped...she asked if he had called the police and with no response she found he had not contacted the police. He then made a very elaborate story of how three men had abducted the boy. but later the man led the police to the little boys body and was booked with first degree murder.

http://laurenssiiblog.blogspot.com/search/label/http%3A%2F%2Fwww.msnbc.msn.com%2Fid%2F28485556%2F
i agree completely with laurens question of why did he choose to kill his only son over his ex wife...either one is a bad idea but still his son had no say in this situation what so ever! I also agree that it had to have been over something more than just child support to kill a little two year old boy in cold blood and then make up some kidnapping story. its sick and twisted, i hope this man rots in prison and the little boy rests in peace. :(

Homicides down in some large U.S. cities

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28479772/
Murder, a common topic in news stories, but this murder story has a little happier ending indeed. The murder rates are decreasing. In Milwaukee alone the murder rates have gone down by a third! Even in bigger cities like New York and Chicago slayings seem to be decreasing. And Milwaukee police president John Balcerzak, gives credit to this light of new hope to Police Chief Edward Flynn. He has been trying new tactics like ground walking police and response to lower importance phone calls.

I agree with Ashleigh brandt ( http://ashleighssii.blogspot.com/ ) on this that it is very important and a very good idea to have larger city police focus on new ways and tactics in stopping crimes of all sizes (especially murders) And even though the rates have gone down significantly, the police forces still arent satisfied because there is still murder and still crime. they will not rest until they see that all is safe and sound. its really important that they think all life matters!!

Abandoned tot leads Ohio police to slain mom

http://www.msnbc.msn.com/id/28494791/

In Dayton, Ohio a toddler was found by a maryland couple. He was wandering around near a gas station, when the couple asked where his mommy was he explained in clear detail that his mother had been shot by a strange man who had entered their home without knocking. The mother, Jennifer Nelson (29), was found just as the boy had explained. The boys fathers vehicle had been stolen recently and Vickie Nelson (the boys grandmother and womans mother-in-law) believed that is how the murderer had found where the Nelsons live. 2 Computers were stolen and there is still an investigation. The stolen vehicle has been located.

Its so sad and tramatic that the little boy had to see his mother be shot and that he has such a clear memory of how everything happened. hopefully the little boy can help with the arrest and conviction in this case. Its confusing how they think the grandmothers car is the getaway vehicle and that they found the stolen car but they havent found any suspects or anything like that.
